BigCommerce has configurable products and VendHQ has simple products. Will this be a problem during the sync?
It depends on what you want to sync. If you just want to sync the inventory levels then there is nothing to worry about regarding the variants. As long as the SKUs match on each system then the sync should run smoothly.
It will be a problem if you want product information (title, description, price, etc.) synced, as then we will have to change the structure on both systems. This means that the BigCommerce products will have to be in simple product form, instead of as configurable products. Meaning, each variant will have to be a separate product with its own SKU, rather than being grouped under a parent product, much like the way VendHQ products are listed.
BigCommerce recognizes SKUs in product orders, but VendHQ does not. How does this sync work? In an order, VendHQ only recognizes product IDs instead of SKUs. So, when BigCommerce order data comes through to VendHQ, it's technically unable to update inventory levels.
Our solution is to create a list of your SKUs and Product IDs on our system, and then we can put in a function that will transform the data from one to another. So when BigCommerce order data comes in, we transform the SKU to the Product ID before sending it to VendHQ, thus ensuring that VendHQ reads the data and updates the inventory levels.
The only thing we require from you is to let us know whenever new products have been added so that we can add their SKUs and Product IDs onto our system. Otherwise VendHQ will not be able to update its inventory if someone orders these new items on BigCommerce.
