When you first log in to the DSYNC application you will notice a right sidebar with three blue buttons at the top of it, dark left sidebar with My Account section, and a large white space in the middle of your screen – canvas.
The left sidebar is where you access and manage your account. Your language and time zone settings, API keys, billing/subscriptions, … all can be found in the ‘My Account’ section.
When you invite more people to collaborate on your account you may notice a ‘Switch Account’ link here. You can choose which account you want to work in by switching the account here.
The left sidebar can be minimized by clicking on the white arrow at the top-right corner of the sidebar.
The little zero underneath the DSYNC logo keeps the count of currently running processes (in realtime) in your account and complements the ‘running’ section of the right sidebar.
Canvas is where you model your data flows. You can add elements on the canvas and create links between them. Links represent a connection between two endpoints. One way links visually show the direction of data flow. Bi-directional links show you your master endpoint.
You can position (drag and drop) elements on the canvas however you like. All elements on the canvas are draggable. The canvas itself is draggable. You can zoom in and out of the canvas using your mouse.
There is a quick access window in the bottom right section of the canvas. It’s a birds-eye view of the whole canvas area and all elements you have added onto it. Click or click-n-drag inside the quick access window to navigate around the canvas.
There is a search element functionality on the canvas accessible via the search box in the top right corner. Matched elements stay highlighted, unmatched are grayed out.
Each element has its own tooltip menu. Right-click an element to access quick functions available for an element.
All elements on the canvas are interactive. You can select any element on the canvas by simply clicking on the element. The right sidebar is where you configure selected element. You can change the name and description of each element, configure data layout for endpoints, add settings for endpoints and systems and so on. Watch your sidebar change depending on what element you select.
There are different icons along the top left side of the sidebar:
- Show/Hide Sidebar (Shows or hides the sidebar)
- Dashboard (Returns sidebar to working state; shows info about currently selected element on the canvas)
- System Templates (Same as Add system using Wizard; drag-n-drop system on a canvas to add it)
- History (Full history of all jobs/connections within your account)
- Help (Opens DSYNC knowledgebase page in new browser tab)
- Running (Realtime status of running processes)
Tabs allow you to quickly navigate between different screens when you work with elements. There is always at least one tab visible called ‘Dashboard’. Dashboard tab is a special tab which cannot be closed and through which you access (return to) the canvas. As you work with different elements you notice that more tabs open along the top side of the canvas. Data layouts, mapping, history/logs, … all these open in a new tab. You can navigate between the different tabs by clicking on them. All tabs apart from the Dashboard tab can be closed.
